If I say the next few weeks are going to be exciting, that is a huge understatement. Like saying the Empire State is kinda big.
If you are following me on Twitter, you probably know that me and my friend, Bálint Orosz have been voted to present at Mix’11. This is quite an achievement – there were 200 sessions to vote for, and even more that didn’t make the first round. We are honored by each and every vote we received – THANK YOU!
The Mix session will be about the lessons learned while designing and publish and tracking Distinction’s excellent Cocktail Flow app and our SurfCube 3D Browser. Here is a more detailed description:
The Tale of Two Apps: Making a Splash in the Windows Phone Marketplace
“Cocktail Flow” and “SurfCube 3D Browser” - two of the top applications in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. Both have received feedback like “my favorite part of this app is showing it to all my buddies who have iPhones, Android phones, or Palm phones.” This talk is a unique opportunity to hear the real story of these apps, how they made it to the top of the charts and what happened since their launch.
Cocktail Flow is arguably one of the most beautiful apps out there, with elegant, colorful graphics that is still faithful to the phone’s Metro design. Bálint Orosz, the designer of Cocktail Flow explains his thought process when designing the app and the lessons learned during development.
SurfCube managed to reinvent mobile web browsing, and has found the balance between eye-candy and usability. András Velvárt shares the secret of how the buzz around SurfCube was created, and shows the effect of being featured in Engadget and other online publications. Hear how bugs and listening to user feedback influenced the sales and the roadmap of SurfCube!
There will be another presentation from a fellow Hungarian MVP – Zoltán Árvai will be talking about “Effective Validation Techniques with MVVM in Silverlight”. It is amazing that a small country of only 10 million people managed to get two speakers voted in! We are doing 17% of the Open Call sessions! Congrats, Zoli!
And speaking of Zoltán - right before Mix, there will be another event nearby (in Orange County), called ROCK! We will be doing a stand up coding session called “The Zen of Silverlight – What’s it Like to Develop a Silverlight Application” there as per the invitation of the amazing Kim Schmidt. This will be a re-run of a Silverlight Klub (user group) meeting that we had a few months ago in Hungary. Here is the abstract:
This session demonstrates the most important parts of developing a Silverlight business application. Enjoyable and interesting for beginner or seasoned developers and designers alike, Silverlight MVP András Velvárt and Client App Dev MVP Zoltán Árvai shows creating a businesses application from scratch, live. Every important aspect of the Silverlight developer and designer experience will be showcased:
Don't miss this once in a lifetime chance to see and hear two experienced Silverlight gurus from Europe with funny accents!
And the Rockstars that will be presenting – an amazing group of people I am very proud to be on the same stage with.
This is going to be quite a gig. And exciting. Jumping off of the Empire State Building exciting. And I am bringing my wife along so that she can see some USA while I am networking and presenting 24/7…
See you soon!
